Television is an inescapable part of modern culture. We depend on TV for entertainment, news, education, culture, weather, sports and, music. Educational television such as documentaries can have a positive impact on one’s life. It’s a great way to learn new information. Sometimes they make you think about issues you’ve never considered, issues you might disagree, issues you might find yourself opening up too and sometimes they make you think that nothing is happening beyond you being entertained.
TVO is a publicly funded educational English-language television station and media organization in the Canadian province of Ontario. TVO’s acclaimed series of social issue documentaries acquired from around the world are controversial, eye opening, hard hitting and provocative.

Here is a preview of a TVO documentary titled, ‘Water on the table’. A look at the world’s water crisis and how the causes of the depleting water supply is connected to pollution, human rights, and politics.

MAX Agency Toronto Talent auditions for The Bicycle Factory with CADBURY

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.  It’s always great to find out about new causes, especially causes that make you eat chocolate! MAX Toronto Talent Amira S, Kariah L, Amos N and Ashley R have an audition for this amazing cause and charity campaign with The Bicycle Factory and Cadbury Canada.

Best known for their chocolate Easter eggs, the Cadbury Corporation continues their fundraising drive to build 5,000 bikes a year for children in rural Ghana with The Bicycle Factory. Cadbury will show Canadians how easy it can be to make a big difference in the lives of others through small, every day purchases like chocolate, gum and candy. By urging their consumers to enter the UPC bar code numbers from Cadbury products into their website. One bike is made up of 100 parts, meaning it takes 100 UPC entries to build a bike.

Bicycles serve as an important means of transportation in the developing world. Bikes also do not rely on fossil fuel, and can help transport people and food on bumpy or unpaved roads. The fundraiser is a chance to “give back to the people who give us so much,” says Cadbury, who “sources most of their cocoa from Ghana today.” Since establishing the program in 2009, Cadbury has collected enough bar codes to produce 10,237 bikes.

Here Cadbury showcases the utility in their advertising campaign in which a girl uses her bike as a delivery van, ambulance, water truck, and school bus.

Best of luck to MAX Toronto Actors at the audition!

MAX Agency Toronto Beauty Tip: Food solutions for your skin

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Your skin truly reflects the old saying, “You are what you eat.” If you eat a healthy diet, full of fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins, with less red meats and processed foods, your skin will look healthy. Your body is finely turned to absorb your nutrition from GI tract and then deliver that energy to your skin and other vital organs. However, there are some foods that actually work better on your skin.

Food fix for crow’s feet: Sweet potato and yogurt mash
Sweet potatoes are a brilliant source of so many good things. They are super high in vitamin A, which boosts collagen. They are a surprising source of minerals such as copper, which helps the formation of new collagen to reduce wrinkles. They are rich in selenium, and diminish the wrinkles. Boil the sweet potato for 20-30 minutes; mash with a fork or potato masher; stir in a quarter cup of full-fat plain yogurt; cool until comfortable to touch. The yogurt will exfoliate, calm and moisturize. Together, the sweet potato and yogurt will smooth and moisturize the skin, and the crow’s feet will look better right away.

Food fix for flakey skin: Avocado and honey
Flakey skin can be the result of dry skin. Mash the fruit of an avocado with one tablespoon of honey. When it is a paste-like consistency, spread over the dry, flakey areas and cover with the cool washcloth pre-soaked with green tea. The avocado is lush with fatty oils that will seal the skin surface and begin the healing process. Honey will exfoliate away the dead skin, protect against bacterial infections, and reduce inflammation. Leave this on for 10-20 minutes and wipe off gently.

Food Fix for Puffy Eyes: Tofu
The quickest trick is to place extra firm tofu patches, cut a half-inch thick, under each eye for 10 minutes a day for two weeks. The soy in tofu has been shown to increase collagen. Also, soy contains flavonoids that have been shown to decrease sun damage. Combined, these will smooth and heal the skin. The sheer weight of the tofu patch will help press the swelling out of the area. Bonus: Follow this by doing 40 jumping jacks to rev up your circulation and drain the puffiness away!

MAX Agency Toronto Talent has an audition for PRISTIQ print ad

Saturday, November 12th, 2011

Depression causes a person to feel sad, angry, or hopeless, have low self-esteem, or lose interest in things they used to enjoy. Depression can affect people of all ages and is different for every person. Women are twice as likely as men to experience depression. And Max Agency Toronto Talent Maureen Hummel has an audition to be the new face for PRISTIQ print ad.

PRISTIQ is a prescription medication that has been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of depression in adults. PRISTIQ is an SNRI, or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. No one knows for sure what causes depression. But many experts believe that depression results when certain chemicals in the brain are out of balance. These chemicals, called neurotransmitters, relay messages from brain cell to another.

Best of luck to MAX Toronto Model Maureen at the audition!

MAX Agency Talent Spotlight: Sal C.

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

MAX Agency Toronto would like to put the spotlight this week on Sal C., one of our most promising young talents. Sal joined MAX agency Toronto in 2009 at the age of seven. For the past two years he has been busy auditioning for numerous jobs for clients ranging from Rice Crispies to Aleve and Kraft. Most notably, Sal has booked jobs with Sobeys, and just recently, Sal landed a spot in a Heart and Stroke Foundation print ad. Sal’s versatility and ability to audition for any job ranging from commercials to print ads is an attribute that has benefited him tremendously in the industry. We can’t wait to report on his future success!

Here’s what Sal’s mom had to say about MAX Agency Toronto:

“It is both mine and Sal’s dream for him to star in a movie one day but  I didn’t know where to start him on his journey to achieve this dream. A friend told us about Max Agency and it was the luckiest day of our lives. Upon signing with Max Agency, Sal finally had the opportunity to do some work. I am so proud of him and so grateful for his agent and all her hard work because without her he would be nowhere. For this we are extremely thankful!”

 Kindly,

Cora (FOREVER GREATFUL MOM!!)

MAX Agency Toronto Tip: How to Memorize Lines

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

How do those actors and actresses memorize hundreds of lines? Memorizing lines takes practice and constant repetition. However, there are a few ways to make the memorization process run smoothly and quickly.

Read Out Loud (And Repeat, Repeat, Repeat):
For most performers, there is no short cut to memorizing lines. To learn lines, an actor must recite the play out loud, over and over again. Most rehearsals encourage this by running through the lines or having a read through.
Record Your Lines:
Because there is often not enough rehearsal time, many performers find
ways to listen to the plays dialogue during everyday activities. Turn your work-outs, chores, and recreational activities into a read through with the help of your headphones or your i-pod. Aside from constant rehearsals, this method seems to be the most popular way to memorize lines. Use a tape recorder or better yet an MP3 player to capture the lines from each relevant scene. Others opt for recording the lines of fellow cast members, but they leave a blank space so that they can insert their dialogue while listening to the recording.

Think Positively and Don’t Panic!
Don’t let the butterflies in your stomach torment you too much. Most people  experience stage fright minutes, hours, even weeks before opening night. While a certain amount of nervousness can get the adrenaline going, too much anxiety over lines might hinder an actor’s performance.

Take solace in the fact that if you forget a line once, you will probably never forget that line ever again! Sometimes embarrassment is the strongest and toughest method of memorization!
