Keep your camera at a distance- Try this experiment: Click a selfie from your phone and position it at 30-50 cm away from your face and click another selfie at 15 cm away. You will notice that your facial features are more accurate when the camera is at a 30-50cm away from your face. Or use a selfie stick.

Tip Tuesday – Nail that Walk!

#TipTuesday is a series MAX Agency — one of the top Toronto talent agencies  — does every week where we share helpful tips for the industry. This could be tips on auditions, bookings, beauty, fashion and more!

Whether you are in a haute couture assemble or vogue-ing in a living room, here are a few tips to get you on the road to your inner diva. Physical balance, inner confidence and a sparkling personality are all necessary to make a charming performance.

  1. Posture: Think tall. While walking, stand up straight leaning slightly back so your legs can go first. Keep your toes pointed forward, so they aren’t turned out. Then walk with one foot in front of the other as if walking on a tightrope.
  2. Hips: Most people think you need to do a lot of hip swaying. Your hips will move naturally so exaggeration isn’t necessary.
  3. Arms: Let your arms swing naturally. However, take care they are not too stiff or have big movement. The clothing you have on will help you decide what to do with your hands, you may need to hold something or stick one in a pocket.
  4. Attitude!: Be commanding and flirty. This will make you fun for the audience.
  5. Rhythm: Get into a rhythm and let the loud music be your uplifting motivation. When a natural bounce to the beat happens add to it by thinking about holding your head high and keeping your shoulders back.
  6. Eyes: You should never look down. Always look straight ahead at the cameras or pick a spot on the wall ahead of you so you won’t get distracted by anything else distracting around you.
  7. Posing: When you reach the end of the runway pause then lean on one hip with lots of attitude.

Tip Tuesday – The Power of Positivity

#TipTuesday is a series MAX Agency — one of the top Toronto talent agencies  — does every week where we share helpful tips for the industry. This could be tips on auditions, bookings, beauty, fashion and more!

A positive mind-frame is necessary for any line of work, especially the talent industry!

While acting and modelling may be daunting at times with auditions, etc., positivity towards yourself and your talent is important.

Here are some tips to maintain a positive mind-frame!

1. Self-Affirmations

Use positive language!  Reinforce positivity within by using verbal language to encourage yourself.  Talk to yourself in the mirror, even if you feel silly, with statements like, “Today will be a good day” or “I’m going to be awesome today.” You’ll be amazed how much your day improves.  This can be incredibly beneficial before auditions to set your mind frame right!

2. Focus on the Present

I’m talking about the present—not today, not this hour, only this exact moment.  While preparation for any audition or casting is important, to alleviate unnecessary stress, focus on the “now”.  By focusing on the present, you hold the power to eliminate negative thoughts brought on from worrying, being stressed, etc.  As #1 states, use self-affirmations to stay in this zone of the present.

Many of the most successful models today have been through exactly what you’re going through. Everybody (models or not) starts somewhere, and for many models, this “somewhere” is the often challenging road to getting scouted, discovered, and hired as a model.

3. Turn Failures into Lessons

Within any line of work, there will be some stress.  Look on the bright side of any experience.  Use any mistakes as lessons to push forward and improve!  Reminding yourself to not sweat the small stuff is so important to move forth.  While you may not be able to go back in time, you hold the power for your future – you can only go up!
